My 25th year | Anna's Birthday Bucket List | Personal
Life is so short so I like to LIVE it with a list of things I'll do for the year of my birthday. January 1st is too intimidating for me so I start things off on my birthday with a list of the number I am. Last year I was 25. These are the 25 things I did on my Birthday Bucket List last year:
1. HAVE A BABY
Baby Oliver was born 6 lbs. 5 oz. 19in on May 25, 2017 at 6:59am. I have type 1 diabetes I'm proud he was that small. I owe everything to my Continuous Glucose Monitor (Dexcom). It took my bloodsugar every 5 minutes and helped me stay in range. I took shots for every carb I ate. My ratio was 1 unit of insulin to every 2 grams of carbohydrates. SO MANY SHOTS. But SO worth it for that cute, healthy little guy. Since then I've been on the pump and my ratio is back to 1unit:20g.
2. FINISH THE BOOK OF MORMON
I was somewhere in 2nd Nephi last year on my birthday and it was taking me forever to push through to the end. This goal helped me get there! I had x amount of pages left and figured if I read 1.5 a day I could make it. So I opened my lds library app and READ ALONG with the people that read the scriptures to you. AND you can speed it up!! It was a really useful trick I used and I wouldn't get "distracted" as often because someone was reading and I had to follow along or I would get lost! I read the whole book in about 5 weeks. Which is so fast for me! This year I started using a study guide and I plan to finish that by my next birthday.
3. GET THE VLOG IN ORDER
We started this vlog a while ago. It was just a place for me to put up videos whenever I felt like it to:
1. Update the family and
2. Have "backups" of all our videos so that if my hard drive crashes I'm not completely sad.
Milo also loves watching them and they are like "home videos" that are really fun to look back on. Everything was random and sometimes I would upload 7 videos in one day and then nothing for 2 months. I created a system where I upload 1 video every Saturday morning. And you can plan videos and post them ahead of time so I can plan the whole month ahead and feel good about it. It's a great system for me and it doesn't take too much extra time to put together 1 video per week. Go check out our channel! Next Birthday Bucket List I'll create an "intro video" to our channel.
4. WEAR/USE INSULIN PUMP
On July 20, 2017 I FINALLY started using a pump (I bought it back in October 2016). My doctor wanted me to wait 6 weeks after giving birth to start. I have loved it. But it has it's moments of being really really annoying :) Just diabetes in general is a pain some days. BUT the pump has allowed me to avoid shots at every meal. It's a shot once every three days instead of 4x+ a day. Woo! I don't think I could go back to shots...
I labeled this one "run" because I didn't want a specific goal associated with this. But I'm learning that goals NEED to be specific in order to work. haha. I run, but not nearly as much as two years ago.
6. DIABETES VIDEO
I created a video about a day in the life of a T1D.
7. BABY BIRTH VLOG VIDEO
I wanted to do a vlog of Oliver's Birthday. I love seeing our excitement. Everything was perfect and it's fun to look back on.
8. NEWBORN PHOTOS OF BABY
I JUST looked through/edited these. I'm so glad I took them and now I'm getting around to editing them.
9. LEARN TO APPRECIATE LIFE NOW - JOURNAL, SERVE, WORSHIP, PRAY, STUDY
I had an amazing visiting teacher when I gave birth. She brought flowers, a meal, gave my son a balloon on his birthday, texted me and felt there for me but didn't "bother" me. Every time I try to serve someone, I think of her and just doing something to show you care.
I got a new study guide that has helped me think about what I'm reading a little more. It also encourages doodling, so that's a good thing.
10. WATCH CONFERENCE TALKS WHILE EDITING
Here are some (snippits) that really stood out to me. To the point of tears.
11. LISTEN TO OTHERS
Continually working on this one for the rest of my life. Excited about the concept of "ministering" now instead of visiting teaching. I'm also learning that when I stop what I'm working on and ACTUALLY listen to Kent, I feel more connected to him. I'm also noticing how much he actually listens to me. Love you babe.
Kent and I took family names to the temple. Taking time for the temple is so so important. I know so many blessings came this year because we took the time to serve in the temple.
13. MAKE COOKIES FOR SOMEONE
I have this AMAZING recipe that I will share with you. "Sharing is Caring" -Alison. Every time I make this recipe they turn out. Take them out of the oven between 8-10 minutes. MAYBE 11. Like before they brown. They are DELICOUS.
1/2 C. Sugar
1/2 C. Brown Sugar
1/3 C. Butter
1/3 C. Shortening
1 teaspoon Vanilla
1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1 1/2 - 2 C. Flour
1 C. Chocolate Chips
We gave these cookies to our new neighbors and I hope they liked them as much as we do! Milo was so excited to share them with "the friends" :)
14. GO HOME
We decided to go home every summer and I love it so much. Here is our family picture we took September 2017.
15. KISS KENT IN THE RAIN
In the Walmart parking lot!
16. KEEP SUCCULENT ALIVE
17. WRITE A LIST OF THINGS THAT MAKE ME HAPPY

18. AVOID SOCIAL MEDIA
I do this every Christmas break and it's amazing and so freeing. It's the perfect time to do it to focus on just family.
Taking just 3 minutes a day to breathe is amazing and really sets you up for a good day. Need to work it in more.
20. READ BABY BOOKS - KEEP/TOSS
These are the keepers.
21. MAKE A BOQUET & TAKE PICTURES
I made three! Putting flowers together is an art and I'm on lesson 0. I honestly had no idea what I was doing, but they look good enough! I want to include more florals in my feed. Thank you Sadie and Claire for being my models!
22. SAVE A LITTLE $
Turns out you can open multiple savings accounts FOR FREE (as long as you have x amount to put into them)! I never looked into it because I figured it would "cost" us to open some. Nope! We opened more for budgeting purposes and it's so much fun to put money into specific savings accounts for certain things we are saving for. WHO KNEW! We have also been investing a little and it helps that my mom is our financial advisor :)
I also love following Jordan Page. She is a wizard with knowledge about budgeting and saving. The picture is of her envelope system (no cash involved!!)
23. GET A HAIRCUT
Much needed and I made sure she thinned it like three times. It felt so good! Always doing this from now on.
24. INTERVIEW MILO & MAKE A VIDEO
I'm doing this every. single. year. He is hilarious.
25. CREATE A LETTERING QUOTE
My friend Megan approached me after the shooting in Vegas about donating a lettering quote to an auction for families of the victims of the shooting. The quote someone "purchased" (the money was donated to the fund) went along perfect with the situation. I snapped a picture of it on my lap as we were driving to mail it off. The auction made over $2,000 in a very short time. I am proud of Megan for stepping up and putting it together. I also donated a photo session to it and was able to take pictures of Kristina and Chaz because of it. Their shoot is here.
